2. Isle of Skye - 10 Hr. Day Tour

A full 10 hour day tour - Prices from £480/$600/€570

Starting your tour on the shores of Loch Ness - Where the elusive and mythical "Nessie" is said to inhabit - with the first sighting by Saint Columba n 565AD - She has eluded many a would be "Nessie Hunter". Will you be lucky enough to catch a glimpse of the Plesiosaur? Loch Ness is one of the largest and deepest bodies of water in Scotland - containing more water than in England and Wales combined, with a width of 1.7 miles, a depth of over 750 feet and 23 miles long and the largest points.

Continuing into the village of Drumnadrochit, we start climbing toward Urquhart Castle, with spectacular views looking north up Loch Ness. A 13th Century fort, which became one of many succumbed to damage by the Governent Forces during the Jacobite Rebellion in the 17th Century.

As we venture further into the Scottish Wilds, we come upon Eilean Donan Castle. A fully restored 13th Century castle sitting upon a small island where 3 lochs meet - Loch Duich, Loch Alsh and Loch Long. Originally built as a defence against Viking Raiders, it was then used by Jacobites during the Rebellion until its demise by Government Forces in 1719 where it lay in silent ruin for 200 years. Painstakingly restored in the 1900's, Eilean Donan is one of the most recognisable castles in Scotland.

A breif drive through the village of Kyle of Lochalsh, takes us toward the Skye Bridge - opened in 1995 - a controversial, yet vital link to the Island. Before the bridge there was a ferry service - two, 28 car ferries by 1971 were transporting 300,000 vehicles anually.

3. Outlander Mini-Tour

A mini-tour taking approximately 2-6 hours. Priced from £100/$125/€120

The tour will take longer if you decide to tour the Culloden Battlefield and Visitor Centre or decide to include the add on's.

As some of the filming locations take place across Scotland, we have put together a mini-tour showcasing some of the inspiration behind the books and TV Series.

Starting the tour at Wardlaw Mausoleum - a must visit to the final resting place of the real "Old Fox" Lord Lovat of the Jacobite Rebellion. The Mausoleum is an Outlander Site and historic site of interest. You can visit the secret underground chamber that contains 6 ancient lead coffins! These include the Lord Lovat's headless body, following his execution at The Tower of London.

A short drive down the road you arrive at Beauly Priory - there are many references to it. It was founded around 1230AD by Monks of the Valliscaulian Order. The Priory is now roofless but is largely intact. It s a very calm and serene place.

Another short jaunt down the road to Castle Leod, inspiration for fictional Castle Leoch where Jamie takes Claire after she is transported 1743. Located 20 miles from Inverness, the castle is still home to the Mackenzie family. Just like its fictional counterpart, the castle played an important role in the Jacobite Uprisings and history is everywhere in this well-preserved Highland Castle.

Distilleries

Will you be visiting any distilleries whilst in Scotland?

With many distilleries on offer across the Highlands & Islands and into Moray, there is something to suit most tastes.

Perhaps a peaty and smokey Talisker on the Isle of Skye, a rich and fruity Glenfarclas or MacAllan. Maybe more of a malt drinker and ache for a Dalmore or Glenfiddich single malt.

Take a trip to the biggest whisky region in the UK - Speyside. Taking in some of the biggest names, such as MacAllan and Glenfiddich.

Scenic Tours
